2019-20 School Calendar Survey

The calendar committee for Garden City Public Schools is seeking input from parents regarding calendar options for the 2019-20 school year. The survey consists of 5 questions and will take only a couple minutes. Thank you.

1. Which day would be best for inservice days for staff/no school days?

2. When should school start in August?
   Early to Mid-August (end before Memorial Day and keep semesters relatively equal in length)
   Mid to Late August (possibly end after Memorial Day)
   
3. Which week would be best for Spring Break?
   March 9-13, 2020
   March 16-20, 2020 (Spring Break for GCCC)
   
4. How important is it to include days off for the following holidays? Keep in mind that taking those days off will extend the school year.

5. List any factors you feel that are not addressed in the current school calendar. Please note board charge to the calendar committee:
   
   • Maintain the current number of contact days for students (174.5).
   • Include a collaboration component in the calendar.
   • Consider the addition of breaks that may include federal holidays.
   • Include two back-to-back inservice days in September to allow for AVID training for secondary schools.
   • Have a calendar to present to the board no later than March 4th.
